Overview

FIEO Registration refers to obtaining a Registration-Cum-Membership Certificate (RCMC) from the Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO). FIEO is the apex body of Indian export promotion organisations, set up in 1965 jointly by the Ministry of Commerce and private trade and industry. It represents the Indian exporting community and acts as a bridge between exporters and the Government of India.

Under the Foreign Trade Policy, an exporter generally needs an RCMC from a relevant Export Promotion Council (EPC) or commodity board to claim benefits and concessions. Where an export product does not fall under the purview of any specific EPC or commodity board, the exporter obtains the RCMC from FIEO. FIEO also registers multi-product exporters and service exporters.

This registration is relevant to merchant exporters, manufacturer exporters, merchant-cum-manufacturer exporters and service providers who wish to be recognised as exporters, build credibility with overseas buyers and banks, and avail benefits under various export promotion schemes. A valid Import Export Code (IEC) issued by the DGFT is a prerequisite before applying. RCMC applications, including those issued by FIEO, are filed online through the DGFT e-RCMC platform.

Objective of FIEO Online Registration

The main objective of FIEO registration is to formally register an exporter and issue an RCMC so that the exporter is recognised under the Foreign Trade Policy. Key objectives include:

  • To provide an RCMC to exporters whose products are not covered by any specific Export Promotion Council or commodity board, as well as to multi-product and service exporters.
  • To enable exporters to claim benefits and concessions available under the Foreign Trade Policy and various export promotion schemes, where an RCMC is required.
  • To represent the Indian exporting community and act as a link between exporters and the Government of India and its agencies.
  • To support exporters with market information, trade enquiries, participation in international trade fairs and delegations, and capacity-building.
  • To promote and develop India's exports of goods and services in global markets.

Benefits of FIEO Registration Online

FIEO registration and the RCMC offer several benefits to exporters:

  • Access to scheme benefits: An RCMC is required to avail certain benefits and authorisations under the Foreign Trade Policy, such as Advance Authorisation, EPCG and DFIA, as per current Government norms.
  • Recognition and credibility: The RCMC and FIEO membership enhance the exporter's standing with overseas buyers, banks and Government authorities.
  • Trade promotion support: Members receive assistance to participate in international exhibitions, trade fairs, buyer-seller meets and business delegations, including support under the Market Access Initiative (MAI) scheme as applicable.
  • Market information: Access to trade enquiries, export-import data, country and product information and guidance on procedures.
  • Single-window support: FIEO acts as an apex body, helping exporters whose products are not covered by any other council, and assisting service exporters.
  • Facilitation services: Members can avail facilities such as visa recommendation letters and other member services offered by FIEO from time to time.
